Salam, hello and Happy New Year everyone. So, what is your destination for this year? How about checking out “Maklong Uwok Homestay”? This is a special kampung house which is brimming with my childhood memories. It may not be as beautiful or as grand as the Sultan of Brunei’s Palace, but it is very special to me because it was built with the blood, sweat and tears of my late parents. I remember watching my late father counting coins (mostly 20 sen and 50 sen coins) every night after he closed his coffee shop, saving to perform his pilgrimage and to build this house. I am not sure how long it took him to save enough coins, but he did it! (Thank you Abah for teaching me to be frugal and for inculcating in me the habit of saving). If you are looking for an ultra-modern homestay equipped with the latest gadgets and an internet service of a lightning speed, this sweet home is not for you. But if you are a nature lover who would love to be surrounded by fresh air, lush green vegetation, and the hypnotic sound of crickets or frogs (at night), then this homestay is definitely one of the items to be on your bucket list.
